Food and drink have a remarkable way of bringing people together—sparking conversation, encouraging connection, and creating the perfect backdrop for new ideas and lasting memories. In the heart of downtown Shelby, NC, you’ll find a local favorite that does just that: Newgrass Brewing Company.

This state-of-the-art microbrewery is more than just a place to enjoy a drink—it’s a vibrant gathering spot beloved by locals and visitors alike. Whether you’re catching up with friends or making new ones, Newgrass offers a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels at home.

Located just two blocks from Greenbrook Design and one block from the historic Court Square, Newgrass holds the distinction of being Cleveland County’s first microbrewery—a milestone we were proud to be part of. We were honored to contribute to the construction of this exciting addition to Shelby’s growing downtown scene and love seeing how it continues to foster community and creativity in our town

Farm-To-Table

Newgrass Brewing Company offers everything you could want in a modern brewery—craft beer, a farm-to-table kitchen, and live music every weekend—all wrapped in a uniquely welcoming atmosphere. It’s a place that feels both relaxed and refined, making it ideal for casual get-togethers with friends or a laid-back night out.

What sets Newgrass apart is its ability to deliver the quality and experience you’d expect from a big-city venue, all within the charm of a small town. From seasonal brews to thoughtfully sourced dishes and a stage filled with talented musicians, Newgrass brings a vibrant energy to Uptown Shelby that’s truly one of a kind. We’re fortunate to have such a standout destination just steps away from Greenbrook Design.

Preserving The Past

While Newgrass Brewery has only been open since 2015, it is full of charm, character, and history. It is dedicated to preserving the past, which is evident when you walk through their doors. Learn more about the history of the materials and Walker Woodworking’s journey to making Newgrass the beautiful destination it is.

Check out the Newgrass website, which has their craft beer list, menu, artist lineup, and the story behind this little brewery.  They have participated in our First Fridays here at Greenbrook Design, and we look forward to having them join us again soon! To stay up to date, just visit our happenings page. We invite you to join us for a free sample of home-crafted beer while enjoying our hospitality. We hope to see you soon in Uptown Shelby. Don’t forget to stop by Greenbrook Design and say hello!

Uptown Shelby

You can visit this hidden gem along with many others in Uptown Shelby, which is just an hour from Charlotte, Asheville, Hickory, and Greenville, and just a few minutes from the Tryon Equestrian Center.  Along with Newgrass, Uptown Shelby has other restaurants, shops, and destinations for your small town “Daycation”. So come eat, drink, shop, and be merry in the city of Pleasant Living!

Design Trends: Bold Colors In The Home

Design Notes

Color matters. It is a part of how we tell our story, especially within our homes. In the last few years, homeowners have ventured off the traditional path of neutrals, such as white, gray, and beige, to bring in pops of bold hues like red, green, and even blue. As the demand for brighter colors increases, both manufacturers and designers have risen to the occasion by creating and incorporating a more diverse color palette for their clients. Traditional products, such as tile, furniture, flooring, cabinets, and even glass, come in a wider selection of bold colors, which provide homeowners with the opportunity to blend a variety of bold colors and neutral colors together in a stunning final design. Although color is a fun element in the world of interiors, it can be challenging to determine the right amount and the various ways it can be incorporated into the home to create the perfect balance for everyone to enjoy.

Color psychology has been studied for decades, with recent findings revealing just how powerful color truly is in the home. Size and style can change by simply selecting different colors for your furniture, accent pieces, or wall color. Telling Your Story Your Way: Blending Culture with Interior Design

Life, Styled

At the heart of any design work is the chance to tell a story—the story of those who live there. Our home is at the core of who we are. It is our grounding, the place we can truly let our hair down and be ourselves. It’s where memories are not just made, but remembered and passed down to the next generation. Homes are meant to be special—a symbol to all who enter of what truly matters to us. That’s why the design choices we make should be influenced by who we are, where we came from, and how our unique experiences shape us. Across the world, people’s design choices are deeply rooted in culture. But in today’s ever-connected world, we’re also seeing a beautiful blending of cultures—where traditional elements mix with modern influences, and regional styles merge to reflect global inspirations.
