Remodel Project – New London, NC
Objective:
A second-generation home purchase called for a modern remodel that preserved the home’s strong structure while updating it for today’s lifestyle. The renovation featured custom cabinetry and an open, functional layout designed for entertaining, family gatherings, and everyday living. Additional updates included the integration of a Murphy bed and multiple bathroom remodels to enhance flexibility, comfort, and long-term function in this second-generation home.

Kitchen Perimeter
The kitchen perimeter showcases custom cabinetry in SW Urban Bronze Satin with the Clifton door profile, creating a modern, refined backdrop. Integrated open shelving with routed LED lighting, layered under-cabinet illumination, and a custom walnut hood with Urban Bronze detailing add warmth, function, and visual depth—designed for both everyday use and entertaining.

Kitchen Island & Hood
The custom kitchen island serves as the centerpiece of the open-concept space, featuring a solid walnut top and a gracefully curved walnut base, both handcrafted by Walker Woodworking. Designed with a generous overhang, the island comfortably seats six while maintaining a refined, furniture-style presence. Flat-finished ends, integrated end panels, and a recessed toe kick create a seamless, tailored look. A Karran undermount sink is subtly integrated, allowing the natural beauty and warmth of the walnut craftsmanship to take center stage.

Wet bar with kegerator
If you brew your own beer, a kegerator isn’t a luxury—it’s a design essential, thoughtfully incorporated into the kitchen design.
The wet bar features a panel-ready Summit kegerator, seamlessly integrated for a built-in, cohesive appearance. Integrated end panels and walnut floating shelves add warmth and depth, balancing functionality with refined, custom detailing.
Murphy Bed
Some of the goals solely for Kerl and her husband were incorporating a vast island—9 feet—and including a hidden pantry and cleanup area, as she did not want dirty dishes in full view. The prep sink is next to the cooktop in the main kitchen, but the wall ovens are also tucked away in the pantry.
This transitional kitchen features a vertical reeded backsplash custom made by Walker Woodworking with a hidden feature of the OPEN & Close door of pass-through to make entertaining easy. This design included a special place for the dog, creating food storage and a feeding area at just the right height.
The kitchen blends smart organization, functionality, and elegant design. Signature features include a built-in knife block, utensil pull-out, spice drawer, peg drawers, docking drawer, bread drawer, and vertical pan dividers—all designed for seamless storage and easy access, enhancing the space’s overall aesthetic.
Laundry Room
This clean, streamlined laundry room features a simple stacked washer and dryer within frameless custom cabinetry, finished in Sherwin-Williams Urbane Bronze (satin sheen). Clifton-style doors, adjustable shelving, and three pull-out rollouts provide practical storage for both laundry and pantry use. With no separation doors, the space remains open and cohesive, creating a sleek, uncluttered look that blends seamlessly into the home.

This bonus bath features custom frameless cabinetry crafted in PGSM wood and finished in Sherwin-Williams SW 6244 Naval with a satin sheen, delivering a rich, sophisticated aesthetic with clean contemporary lines. The cabinetry is styled with the timeless Clifton door profile, offering subtle detail while maintaining a modern transitional feel.
The space is complemented by a Silestone Miami Vena countertop, whose soft veining adds brightness and elegance against the deep navy cabinetry. A Karran VC-105-WH sink completes the design with a crisp white finish, creating a refined contrast and enhancing the bath’s fresh, polished appearance.
Guest Bath (right photo)
This guest bath features custom frameless PGSM cabinetry finished in Sherwin-Williams Edamame with a satin clear-base finish. The Clifton door style pairs beautifully with the Silestone Miami Vena countertop for a clean, timeless look. Design details include floating shelves, a recessed toe kick, and applied end panels, while a Karran VC-105-WH sink completes the space with crisp contrast.
