Design Notes
The kitchen has always been considered the heart of the home, but in 2026, it’s evolving even further, becoming a space that blends style, comfort, technology, and connection. Today’s homeowners want kitchens that feel warm, personalized, and highly functional for everyday life.
At Greenbrook Design Kitchen & Bath, we’re seeing several exciting kitchen design trends shaping new builds and remodeling projects. If you’re planning a kitchen renovation, these design ideas are defining the year ahead.
Warm, Nature-Inspired Color Palettes
The all-white kitchen dominated for years, but homeowners are now embracing warmer, more natural colors. Shades inspired by nature, such as olive green, soft blues, clay tones, and earthy neutrals, are adding depth and personality to kitchens.
Designers are also seeing homeowners experiment with color in creative ways, such as adding bold hues to islands, pantry spaces, or lower cabinets rather than the entire kitchen.
Some of the most popular colors right now include:
- Olive and mossy greens
- Warm mushroom or greige neutrals
- Soft dusty blues
- Terracotta and clay tones
These colors create a kitchen that feels warm, welcoming, and timeless rather than stark or overly trendy.
Two-Tone Cabinetry
Two-tone cabinetry continues to gain popularity for its added depth and visual interest in the kitchen. Instead of choosing one color for all cabinets, designers are pairing complementary finishes.
Common combinations include:
- White upper cabinets with darker lower cabinets
- Natural wood islands with painted cabinetry
- Navy or green islands paired with neutral cabinets
This approach allows homeowners to experiment with color while still maintaining a balanced and cohesive design.
Statement Kitchen Islands
The kitchen island has become the centerpiece of the modern kitchen. In many homes, it’s replacing the dining table as the main gathering place.
Today’s islands are doing more than ever. Designers are incorporating features like:
- Extra-deep storage drawers
- Seating for entertaining
- Built-in appliances
- Waterfall countertops
- Sculptural or curved island shapes
The result is a space that works for cooking, entertaining, homework, and everyday living.
Natural Materials and Textures
Another major trend for 2026 is the return of natural materials that bring warmth and texture to the kitchen. Designers are incorporating wood, stone, and handcrafted elements to create kitchens that feel layered and organic.
We’re seeing:
- Natural wood cabinetry or islands
- Textured stone or tile backsplashes
- Organic materials like limestone or marble
- Unique wood grains like burl wood add character and individuality.
These materials help kitchens feel more authentic and connected to nature.
Seamless and Integrated Appliances
Clean, streamlined kitchens are becoming increasingly popular. One way designers achieve this look is by integrating appliances into the cabinetry so they blend seamlessly into the overall design.
Examples include:
- Panel-ready refrigerators
- Hidden dishwashers
- Built-in beverage centers
- Appliance garages for small appliances
This approach keeps the kitchen looking uncluttered while maintaining full functionality.
Function-Focused Design
In 2026, function is just as important as style. Homeowners want kitchens that work for their lifestyle, not just look beautiful.
Design features gaining popularity include:
- Deep drawer storage
- Pull-out pantry cabinets
- Hidden trash and recycling systems
- Smart appliances and voice-activated fixtures.
These thoughtful details help kitchens stay organized and efficient, making everyday routines easier.
Liver mush. Cleveland County is famous for its liver mush and the festival that has celebrated it for the past 30 years. Due to COVID-19, however, our community had to do some quick thinking to enjoy our yearly tradition still safely. This is how the first-ever virtual liver mush festival was born, and we at Greenbrook Design are honored to be one of the sponsors. Individuals were invited to share a video of themselves preparing their favorite way to enjoy liver mush for a chance to win cash and prizes valued at over $1,000.
At Greenbrook Design, we believe that a home should reflect not just your style—but your story. The Bramble House is the perfect example of how collaboration, creativity, and craftsmanship can come together to create something truly exceptional.
This home is more than just beautiful—it’s smartly designed, thoughtfully furnished, and filled with functional elements that enhance everyday living.
