Dura Supreme galley kitchen crafted with frame-less construction method.

KITCHEN

Objective: To create a well designed galley kitchen with optimized organization, storage & function for this retired couples “forever home”.

A galley kitchen is typically characterized by two parallel countertops that encompass a walking area in between. This allows for easy back-and-forth motion during food preparation, and is perfect for the retired couple living here.  As seen, this galley kitchen design places the sink on one side of the kitchen and the range on the other.  Just like the compact galley on ships, this kitchen will optimize space by adding function, storage and an easily accessible work area.

For a kitchen to function properly everything must have a place, and organization is of the utmost importance in a kitchen this size.  Working with a Dura Supreme Cabinetry Designer such as Greenbrook Design, allows semi-custom to full custom capabilities that you can’t always find in other companies. We have incorporated silverware dividers, utensil dividers, pan dividers, and easy access roll out drawers in the pantry closet.

The matching laundry room (also remodeled) is close by with plenty of storage.

DESIGNER CHALLENGE

To remain within the existing footprint, increase organization & storage all while updating the homeowner’s space, and staying within their budget.

Homeowners Questions & Answers:

There are many different reasons for a remodel, what was your reason to upgrade your kitchen and laundry room? 

We last remodeled in 2000, so it was time to upgrade appliances and the change overall look of our space. We had white cabinets before, and the finish was starting to wear off, which is why we choose to go with a completely different color.  *cabinets prior to remodel were not Walker Woodworking. 

What is your favorite feature of your recent kitchen and laundry room remodel?

It’s hard to really pick only one favorite. Working with Greenbrook Design was so helpful.  They helped us to see the “Big Picture” and really catered to our needs.  Not only did they help with our cabinet choice, but they helped with our counter-tops and back-splash.  My personal favorite is the back-splash and the color choice we went with.  Running a close second, is the fact that we gained storage like a trash can pull out, deeper drawers for pots and pans and the pull out drawers in the pantry are easily accessible to us.

Would you have done anything different?

Not really, it was hard to change the design since it is a galley kitchen and the layout was not going to change.

What was your deciding factor in using Greenbrook Design? 

We have known Travis Walker since he began woodworking as a hobby.  He has built many nice things for our family including a book case, that may have been one of his first pieces.  Now that Greenbrook Design offers more lines of cabinetry, we choose to use Dura Supreme cabinetry for budget and timing reasons.  We are very pleased with the outcome and I would recommend Walker Woodworking and Greenbrook Design to anyone considering a new kitchen or other areas of the home.
