Light. It is one of the most beautiful elements in nature and adds life wherever it shines. Light also plays a vital role in the world of design. It can create a stark contrast that makes for an emphatic statement in a room. It can enhance the beauty of a space and complement almost any element with which it is paired. Natural light has the ability to make any space look larger, warmer and more inviting. We love working with light and incorporating it into our design which is called “daylighting”. Here are a few of our favorite reasons why we enjoy using natural light.
Natural light and mood
Light has the ability to influence a person’s mood. More light makes a person feel safer and stimulates them to be more productive. This can be very beneficial to those who work from home, which is becoming a popular trend. Working from home often means hiding away inside for hours at a time which can have negative health effects. According to a recent study, it is one of the most important factors people desire to have in their office environment. By incorporating natural light into the office design, you can ensure more productivity in a friendlier environment which is a big plus for the home office.
Natural light versus artificial
While it is wonderful to have light after dark so we can finish those last-minute projects, natural light has a host of benefits outside of just being able to see. Natural light is full-spectrum meaning it contains all the colors of the rainbow while artificial light can only mimic a few of the colors. We do better healthwise when we are exposed to full sunlight for a portion of the day, learn more here. Another comparison is the monetary benefits associated with natural light. If laid out correctly, natural light can reduce electricity costs because it minimizes the need to use light fixtures during the day. Artificial lights can represent up 25 to 30% of your electric bill, which is absolutely astounding, though some of this cost can be reduced through the use of different light bulbs. These factors are important to consider when designing your new space.
Natural light and space
Rooms that have more natural light can be made to seem bigger and also allow us to connect with the outdoors. Though a room usually cannot be made larger without some remodeling work, the perceived size can be made to seem more spacious simply by using existing natural light. Mirrors are a great way to maximize the light already present and strategically spread it in the space. Large windows and glass doors allow us to bring nature close to us and give us the feeling of a grander space. See one of our projects where natural light was the center focus of the design.
Come visit our Showroom
Instead of an enclosed wall, we opted for large windows in our showroom which allows the natural light to fill the space and create a warm and inviting environment for both our clients and employees. We would love to give you a tour of the showroom and discuss your ideas for your space. Come visit us and enjoy a complimentary beverage while enjoying the view.
