Rustic Home Interior Design

The rustic, log cabin feel draws us back to a quiet, charming, inviting time. This project has all of these elements and more. The warmth of the logwood walls pairs perfectly with the soft blue cabinets, and the strong contrast of the dark kitchen island completes the look. The cozy feel that the logs give carries over to the master bathroom, giving the owners a unique space they can enjoy. This project also has some fun features, including an area to wash the dog and an open-shelf pantry. A second kitchen downstairs means more space to entertain friends as well. From kitchens to bathrooms, this home’s rustic appeal makes it a place that takes a step back in time but comes with all the comforts of the 21st century.

Kitchen + Pantry

Objective: To design a kitchen that integrates with the home’s log cabin walls and feel.

This kitchen has unique needs; the cabinets had to be mounted and integrated directly into the logwood walls. We were up for the challenge, and everyone was pleased with the final results. Color choices were also crucial in this design as we didn’t want the beauty of the cabinet design to get lost in all of the wood tones, so a soft blue was selected for the kitchen’s perimeter and a shade of black for the island. The hardware was a different color for each area but similar in style, making our point that you can often mix and match your hardware to achieve a unified look. Lighting was a critical piece for this space, using under cabinet lighting eliminated the common shadows for this area, and the canned lighting provided targeted light throughout the kitchen, adding pendant lighting over the island provided the final illumination needed. The frosted glass front cabinet doors stand out against the cabin wall and make a beautiful look in the kitchen. One bonus area is the additional seating around the two unique live-edge tables. It is surrounded by several chairs with a rustic feel and vibe. Who wouldn’t want to come for a visit? There is ample storage in the open shelved pantry and additional cabinets, which are perfect for keeping more oversized items like crock pots and serving platters. This project takes us back to a simpler time and draws you in for an evening of good food and conversation with friends.

Bathrooms

Objective:  Create functional bathrooms that blend with the rustic log cabin style.

Soft gray is the perfect complement to the warm wood walls in this stunning master bathroom. His and her sink combination allows each person to have their own separate space, including a tall cabinet, drawers, and storage under the sink, but in an asymmetrical design. The large, fully tiled walk-in shower is tucked neatly to the side and has additional lighting and a seated area. The guest bathroom is just the right size for storage and has sufficient counter space to even place extra towels for visitors.

Specialty Areas

Objective:  From a second kitchen to a designated area to wash the dog, the homeowner wanted these spaces incorporated into the design.

The homeowners wanted to include additional areas in their log cabin to accommodate their specific needs. They created a custom space to bathe their dogs and store supplies easily. Deciding to include a beverage refrigerator to keep extra drinks cold for guests meant they would never run out, and selecting the color red was a great choice for this space as it made it fun. A second kitchen was also created to provide additional space to host gatherings and parties.
